The Colorado Rapids have traded midfielder Mike Grella to the Columbus Crew in exchange for a 2019 MLS SuperDraft second round pick.

Grella, 30, was selected by Colorado in the first stage of the 2017 MLS Re-Entry Draft hours before the trade.

“Mike is an intelligent and technically gifted player whose profile fits our game model well. His determination and strong work ethic will put him in an excellent position to return to top form,” said Sporting Director and Head Coach Gregg Berhalter in a statement by the Ohio club.

“We believe that at his best, Mike Grella is an outstanding player in Major League Soccer.”

Grella last played for the New York Red Bulls for two seasons, scoring 16 goals in 73 appearances. He also has stints in the English Championship and League One, in Danish side Viborg, and the then-NASL club Carolina RailHawks (currently North Carolina FC in the USL).
