Chicago police are searching for a man who they say followed two girls in car while trying to engage them in conversation Friday morning on the West Side.

The juveniles, whose ages were not released, were walking around 7:45 a.m. in the 700 block of North Austin Avenue in the South Austin neighborhood when a man pulled up in a vehicle and tried to talk to them, police said in a community alert.

The girls walked away, but the vehicle followed them after they walked a few blocks, police said. They ignored the man and called 911.

The man was described as black, in his 40s and heavy-set with gray facial hair, according to the alert. He wore a black winter hat, glasses and dark clothing.

Anyone with information can call Area North detectives at 312-744-8200.
