The Loyola girls basketball team’s upset bid fell short Thursday night as top-seeded Maine West pulled away late for a 57-46 win over the third-seeded Ramblers in the Class 4A Maine East Sectional final.

The Ramblers (25-6) trailed 39-36 after three quarters but an ill-timed offensive cold stretch — they made one basket in the first seven-plus minutes of the fourth quarter — turned the tide in the Warriors’ favor.

“We started the game slowly and had to fight uphill the rest of the night,” Loyola senior forward Lilly Wehman said. “I didn’t like the way we played tonight on defense.”

Junior Celia Satter was the Ramblers’ lone scorer in double digits with 15 points. Junior Julia Martinez added nine points and senior Erin Dillon chipped in eight points.
