Montgomery may hire a new police chief Monday.

After an interview process with potential candidates, Montgomery Village President Matt Brolley is expected at Monday’s Village Board meeting to make a motion to hire Phil Smith as the new police chief.

Long-time Montgomery Police Chief Dan Meyers is retiring April 30. Smith, who lives in Plano, is currently police chief in Berkeley, a small town in Cook County.

Smith has over 27 years of experience, including serving with the Kendall County Sheriff’s Department for about 24 years, Montgomery officials said.

He holds a master’s degree in law enforcement and justice administration from Western Illinois University, a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice management from Aurora University, an associate’s degree in criminal justice from Waubonsee Community College and attended the FBI National Academy, village officials said.
