Arlington Heights police are searching for a man who approached a girl on her way to an elementary school Tuesday morning from his car and told her to get inside the vehicle, authorities said.
The student was walking to Ivy Hill Elementary School around 8:30 a.m. on Valley Lane, near Burke Drive, when the man drove by her and asked if she wanted food, said Arlington Heights Police Cmdr. Rich Sperando. He then told her to get inside his car, he said.
“She said, ‘no,’ and refused, and he drove off,” Sperando said.
When she arrived at Ivy Hill, the girl reported the incident to school officials, who immediately contacted police, Sperando said.
The man was described as wearing a black baseball hat and black sweatshirt, and was driving a black car. An investigation is ongoing, police said.
