A woman was found dead Friday afternoon on South Side Red Line tracks after she was hit by a northbound train and made contact with the third rail, authorities said.
The woman, who has not yet been identified, was found at the 87th Street station tracks at about 2:05 p.m., said CTA spokesman Steve Mayberry. Chicago police and the Chicago Fire Department both responded to the scene.
Police do not suspect foul play was involved in the woman’s death, said Chicago police spokeswoman Officer Jessica Rocco. Her death is still under investigation.
Power was removed on the Red Line in both directions between the 95th and 79th stations. Trains are only operating between Howard and 79th, and a shuttle bus service has been provided between the 79th and 95th stations.
