A patient at Northwest Community Hospital who was confirmed to have COVID-19 died Friday, according to a news release from Northwest Community Healthcare, the hospital’s parent company.

The patient, who has not been identified, was admitted to the hospital in Arlington Heights Monday with the disease.

The patient was in their 60s and had “severe” underlying conditions, hospital officials said in the release.

“Our team is deeply saddened by the patient’s passing,” according to the release. “We extend our deepest condolences to this patient’s family during this very difficult time.

As of Thursday, the disease claimed the lives of 26 Illinois residents, and more than 2,500 cases were reported statewide, according to officials.

According to Northwest Community Healthcare, the hospital has been preparing for potential patients since “the earliest diagnosis of this global public health threat” and is following guidelines set by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the Illinois Department of Public Health for the safety of its patients and staff.

This includes rules on visitor restrictions that started March 14 and other program cancellations and closures.
