Oak Park officials issued a statement condemning antisemitism on Thursday after a home was vandalized with an antisemitic message.

According to the statement, the home on the 300 block of Home Avenue was vandalized with an antisemitic message on Wednesday. A source informed village officials that “NO JEW” was marked on a lawn using wooden boundary markers.

Detectives responded and canvassed the area, including reviewing nearby security camera footage and collecting physical evidence from the scene for further analysis, according to the statement. Resident beat officers have increased their presence in the neighborhood to support residents and address concerns, officials said.

Investigators are coordinating with regional law enforcement partners to identify any related incidents or trends, said Dan Yopchick, the chief communications officer for the village.

“Acts of antisemitism have no place in Oak Park,” said Vicki Scaman, the village president. “Our Village prides itself on being a welcoming, diverse community and incidents like this one are deeply painful, not just for those directly affected, but for our entire Jewish community and all residents who value inclusion. I want our Jewish neighbors to know that they are valued and supported here. We do not tolerate hate in any form. The Oak Park police department is taking this incident very seriously and investigating for a swift and thorough response.”

Officials encouraged anyone with information related to the incident to contact the Oak Park Police Department at 708-386-3800 or police@oak-park.us.
