A back-and-forth joke barrage between John Oliver and a Connecticut mayor could lead to a hefty donation to charity — and a sewage plant being named after the talk show host.

Oliver kicked things off last month by making jokes about the city of Danbury during a segment on his HBO program “Last Week Tonight.”

“If you’re going to forget a town in Connecticut, why not forget Danbury?” Oliver quipped during the Aug. 16 episode, without specifying why he was targeting the city with his humor.

“If you’re from there, you have a standing invite to come get a thrashing from John Oliver — children included.”

Danbury’s Mayor Mark Boughton then responded in a Facebook video that the city planned to rename a sewage facility the “John Oliver Memorial Sewer Plant.”

“Why?” Boughton said. “Because it’s full of crap, just like you, John.”

Oliver has since said he would donate $55,000 to charities in the Danbury area if they actually did rename the plant after him.

On Sunday, Boughton agreed to rename the facility as long as Oliver agreed to “one very specific condition.”

“You must come here to Danbury and be physically present when we cut the ribbon,” Boughton said in a new Facebook video.

Oliver has not yet responded to the invitation.
