An annual Park Ridge ceremony reflecting on the lives lost during the Sept. 11, 2001 terrorist attacks will occur in a new format this year.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the city has canceled its in-person 9/11 remembrance ceremony, which for the last five years has taken place outside Park Ridge City Hall at the memorial created using an artifact from the World Trade Center.

This year, the city will mark the 19th anniversary of 9/11 with a short prerecorded video featuring the police and fire department honor guards and a speech by Mayor Marty Maloney, said Park Ridge Police Chief Frank Kaminski.

The ceremony will be shared on Friday, Sept. 11 on the city’s website, www.parkridge.us, Kaminski said.
