The downtown Elgin branch of Chase Bank, which opened in 1985, and one of two Chase branches in Carpentersville will close next month — victims of changing customer needs, a bank representative said.
“We have notified customers that the branch at 24 E. Chicago St. in Elgin is being consolidated, closing Oct. 21,” spokesman Brian Hanover said. “We have also notified customers that the branch at 2163 Randall Road in Carpentersville is being consolidated, closing Oct. 28.”
The ATMs at each location also will be removed although the bank will continue to have several nearby branches and dozens of ATMs, Hanover said. Chase bank employees at both branches will be moved into jobs at other branches in the area, he said.

“Like any good retailer, we constantly evaluate our branch network to ensure we’re in the right locations as our customers’ needs change,” Hanover said of the closures.
“Sometimes we consolidate a branch when another is nearby or traffic is low. This allows us to provide a strong, successful branch network that can serve our community for the long term.”
Online banking has also become a big factor in why bricks-and-mortar buildings are not as needed as they once were, Hanover said.
“Banking is no longer a one-size-fits-all approach,” he said. “Our customers are rapidly adopting new technologies and innovations, such as mobile, online and in-branch technologies that allow them to bank how, where and when they want for everyday banking activities.”

Chase will continue to have facilities in Elgin at 270 S. Randall Road, 1600 Larkin Ave. and 500 Shady Oaks Drive and in South Elgin at 536 Randall Road. There is a stand-alone ATM location inside Advocate Sherman Hospital at 1425 N. Randall Road.
The Randall Road location in Carpentersville was already temporarily closed due to COVID-19 but there is a second branch at 21 S. Western Ave. that will remain open. There also are locations in Hanover Park, Streamwood, Hoffman Estates, St. Charles and elsewhere.
