Speak Out: Masks have nothing to do with politics and everything to do with safety; Indiana seems to have found way to deal with crime; what songs helped calm Donald Trump?

Unarmed patriots who wanted to make a point by getting into the U.S. Capital on Jan. 6 or angry insurrectionists who wanted to take control of the government? Opinions seem to fall on one side or the other.

Music soothes the savage beast: It’s been reported that Max Miller, former White House aide, would hum Broadway show tunes to Donald Trump whenever the excitable ex-president showed signs of extreme agitation. If true, wouldn’t we all like to know what he was humming on Jan. 6 Do you suppose it was “Send In the Clowns”?

Believe what you see: (Columnist Ted) Slowik finally came out of the closet. He’s now the official liberal lemming poster boy of spin for the Democrat Party. His Sept. 24 column was on how our democracy was in peril. Slowik, being the resident spinner, once again had to bring up the Democrat’s stale version of the Jan. 6 Capitol intrusion by “violent insurrectionists.” He must not have watched the clips of those organized “violent” people. They looked like a bunch of lost tourists, looking for where to go.

Who’s the real threat? Ted Slowik writes about a threat to democracy with his Jan. 6 agenda. Democrats have a small majority in the House, a 50-50 Senate and the presidency. They seem to think this gives them the right to radically change America, open the borders, ignore the U.S. Constitution and the Supreme Court, eviscerate the military, arm enemies of democracy, ignore laws they don’t like and mandate that everyone be vaccinated for a virus that has a survival rate over 99%. Yes, there is a serious threat to our democracy; however, it is not several hundred unarmed protesters out of a rally crowd of tens of thousands.

Spouting ‘garbage’: It is amazing there are still some uninformed, misinformed people who think masks have something to do with socialism or the Democrats. Masks help prevent the spread of the virus, and protect you, me, our loved ones and society as a whole. It’s amazing that with nearly 700,000 Americans dead, people still spout this garbage. If you want to know the effectiveness of masking, check out the websites of the Mayo Clinic’s article. Other articles are found at the CDC, PNAS, and UCSF.

Follow Indiana’s lead: It was reported that our neighboring state, Indiana, is using technology to catch criminals, and it’s working. Their police officers are highly trained and will go after criminals in high speed cars purchased without the taxpayers’ money. Cameras were installed on their expressways, reading license plates. After hearing all of this, it left me thinking about Chicago. Nothing is going right, every day there is crime and more crime. So maybe the answer is training. Cameras were installed on our expressways. So far I haven’t heard of any arrests, and crime has not stopped.
