Oak Lawn police said Wednesday two men have been charged in connection with a stolen vehicle that ended in a pursuit Monday.

Both men were taken into custody late Monday afternoon near 95th Street and Oak Park Avenue following a chase that began in Gary, Indiana, police said in a news release.

Damarco Morrison, 19, of the 11500 block of South State Street, Chicago, was charged with possession of a stolen motor vehicle, police said.

Jalen Roberts, 20, of the 4400 block of Maryland Street, in Gary, Indiana, was charged with trespass to a motor vehicle and possession of a controlled substance, according to the release.

A 2018 Chevrolet Equinox the men were in had been reported stolen Sunday in Chicago, and on Monday, police in Gary began the pursuit after a license plate reading camera alerted them the vehicle was in town, according to the release.

Gary police chased the vehicle into Oak Lawn, where it hit a traffic light at 95th and Oak Park Avenue, according to police.

The incident brought a large police presence and the search involved a police helicopter and the Cook County sheriff’s police canine unit, according to the release.

Police said that Roberts was taken into custody at a car dealership after a brief foot pursuit and that Morrison was later found hiding under a vehicle not far from where Roberts was apprehended.

Both men were scheduled to make an initial court appearance Wednesday at the Cook County courthouse in Bridgeview.
