A woman was wounded early Wednesday in Lakemoor after a man fired a shotgun at her, according to the Lake County sheriff’s office.
After the 3 a.m. shooting, the 28-year-old Sheridan woman drove to the Lakemoor police station, where an officer aided her and called an ambulance, police said.
She was taken to a hospital for treatment of what police said was a non life-threatening head wound.
The woman had likely come to the 31700 block of north Jennifer Lane to complete a drug transaction, police said. As the woman was getting back in her car to leave, a man appeared from the side of the residence and fired several blasts from a shotgun.
Lakemoor police determined that the shooter fled on foot and several police departments, including sheriff’s deputies from Lake and McHenry counties, set up a large perimeter. A police dog tracked the man to a site about a half-mile away, where the trail suddenly went cold. Police think the man got into a vehicle there.
Police said the shooting appears to be a targeted incident, and that there is no known threat to the community. The investigation is continuing.
