Webb House is hosting an evening of support for female veterans fundraiser at 5:30 p.m. March 16 at the Dean and Barbara White Community Center, 6600 Broadway, Merrillville.
Donation to the event is $50, the proceeds of which will go to those individuals who will be using a housing/education center for female veterans and their children that is proposed to be built in Merrillville.
Individuals can pay at the door to attend the event.
“The money raised will be for the ladies in the event they need personal items or money for when they leave the housing center,” Webb House founder Robert Farmer said.
The proposed center will provide temporary housing for female veterans while they receive training from various unions.
Farmer said the event will include a panel discussion featuring former prisoner of war Jessica Lynch and women from all branches of the military.
He said the event also will include a silent auction.
“We are trying to raise awareness for the plight of the female veteran. Why not start in Northwest Indiana,” Farmer said.
