Finally after 100 years they passed a bill that made lynching a federal hate crime. Now we will also have our first Black woman Supreme Court justice who, during her confirmation hearing, became a political football for some of the Republicans. Sen. Ted Cruz used the opportunity to play to his base. Questions were asked to Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson that were never asked before. She was asked what religion she belonged to and how often does she attend church. Jackson used grace and dignity throughout the hearing even though they tried to break her down.

I don’t remember if the same happened among Democrats when the last three Supreme Court justices were confirmed, and if it did, shame on them, but the disrespect shown by Republican senators exiting en masse after Ketanji Brown Jackson’s confirmation, was not only an embarrassing display of our government and its leaders, but a cringeworthy reflection of the disrespectful behavior plaguing our nation. The disappointed athletes we saw during March Madness showed better character.

President Biden said he was determined that his U.S. Supreme Court nominee be a Black woman. In confirmation hearings, Ketanji Brown Jackson was asked to provide a definition for the word woman. Jackson gave an evasive response. Does that mean Biden’s choice of Jackson really isn’t a milestone? By her own words, she’s just a person of undefinable gender who has become the third Black appointee to the Supreme Court, after Thurgood Marshall and Clarence Thomas.

I read that District 218 made a big deal about instructing students about Ramadan. I wonder if 218 will give an equal amount of instruction on the topic of Good Friday and Easter coming up on April 15 and 17?

J.I., Oak Lawn

I see they are showing a video to students and staff explaining Ramadan and why Muslim students fast during this time at Richards High School and Oak Lawn High School. Isn’t this mixing church and state? Do they show a video explaining Easter and why Christians fast during Lent? Do they show a video that explains the Jewish holy days of Yom Kippur and Rosh Hashana? I’m guessing not.

Dan, Midlothian

I just read the article in the Southtown that District 218 is marking Ramadan with a video for students and staff explaining the Muslim holy month. Well wait a minute, I thought you couldn’t mention God in schools anymore. The liberals and atheists have been screaming for years separation of church and state. The article goes on to say that there are now accommodations for students and staff to celebrate Ramadan. What a double standard. You can’t have it both ways. It’s time for Christians to start standing up for their beliefs also.

Now is the time, now is the best time, to boycott Disney. Why blow through thousands of hard-earned dollars? They no longer represent the magical goodness and values of its founder, Walt Disney.

Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez was saying what would happen if the student loans don’t get paid off like President Biden said they would. Then she said we would lose part of our young Democratic vote base. So basically what that means is if you don’t hand all these students with student loans cash, they won’t vote for me. Doesn’t anybody see how illegal that has got to be.

I’m tired of the Jehovah’s Witnesses sending me items through the mail. Every week, I receive items from three different Jehovah’s. I get personalized letters, pamphlets, invitations and business cards that encourage me to call them. If I got a pamphlet in my door every now and then, I wouldn’t complain. But this is ridiculous!

Thank you, please, you’re welcome, excuse me, I’m sorry, pardon. Sound familiar? Probably not. It’s baseball season, manners and civility struck out.

To Mary of Tinley Park regarding inflation. It all comes down to greed and opportunity. Everybody who has money is greedy and they have the opportunity to raise prices on everything. They also do it because they have excuses. The pandemic, the war in Russia, it’s all just a bad reason to raise prices on everybody. We could be a totally self-sufficient nation but the higher-ups choose not to do that for us.

Tony, Palos Heights

To Maddy of Orland Park, Trump will continue to be brought up day after day after day because he wants it that way. No other ex-president in our nation’s history has forced himself into the public eye the way he has been doing since he left office. Additionally, the contention that our economy was better under Trump is simply wrong. Working Americans always do better under Democratic presidents.

It’s interesting that coach Dawn Staley’s belief that the victory in the women’s national championship basketball game was divinely ordered would move Bridgeview Marv to question God’s choices. The coach expressed her belief and Marv expressed his. Fair enough. I find it interesting that he chooses to do so in such a condescending manner. How does Marv know what choices God made about Putin or the pandemic? Wouldn’t you need to believe in God first? There is already enough negative, gloom and doom slant in the media.

While Chicago and other cities in the blue states get blasted in the media and by red state politicians for the violence that exists there, statistics show that crime and murder actually occur at a greater rate in the red states. Statistics show that red states actually have greater rates in adult and child poverty, and high school and college graduation rates. Red states pay less in federal taxes but get more federal money back than do blue states. Let’s Go Blue!

The far left Democrats got another victory over our first amendment when One America Network was removed from DirectTV. Another opinion was eliminated. Is that progress?

Bill, Plainfield

To all my Democratic and liberal friends, “The View” is not a news source.
