North Central College Fine and Performing Arts has announced the 2022-2023 season with a lineup that includes new and familiar faces, youth theatrical events, student theater and musical performances and cabarets.
Jim Peterik, Edwin McCain, Lee Greenwood, and Darlene Love are some of the artists scheduled to appear this season.
Love, famous for the holiday classic “Christmas Baby Please Come Home,” will appear Dec. 3, as part of the Home for the Holidays series. Completing the series is Norway’s all-female brass group tenThing Brass Ensemble performing international holiday favorites Dec. 4 and Ted Vigil paying tribute to John Denver Dec. 15.
The rock and pop series kicks off with Grammy award winner Jim Peterik’s World Stage Sept. 24, followed by a cappella group Naturally 7 Oct. 20, singer-songwriter Edwin McCain Nov. 12, and the cheekily-named Red Hot Chili Pipers March 24, 2023.
The Blues, R&B and Jazz series begins Oct. 8 with blues guitarist Davy Knowles, Forever Motown on Deb. 18, and the Langston Hughes Project: Ask Your Mama (12 Moods for Jazz) featuring the Ron McCurdy Quartet Feb. 25, 2023.
The Chicago Sinfonietta’s annual tribute to Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. kicks off the Country, Folk and Classical series Jan. 15, 2023, followed by opera singer Denyce Graves Feb. 5, the folk-fiddling husband-and-wife duo Natalie MacMaster and Donnell Leahy March 11, and concluding May 19 with American country music singer-songwriter Lee Greenwood.
Singer Tammy McCann, 2020 Chicagoan of the Year in Jazz, presents her show, “Legendary Ladies of Jazz” Jan. 22, 2023, to start the cabaret series. She’s followed March 5 with Brian Lynch’s show, “The Road to Les Miz,” and jazz singer Alyssa Allgood May 21.
TheaterWorksUSA will offer three shows in the youth and family series; starting with “The Lightning Thief: Theater for Young Audiences Edition” Oct. 9, “The Magic School Bus — Lost in the Solar System” Feb. 4, 2023, and “Junie B’s Essential Survival Guide to School” April 22. Additionally, Fairytales on Ice is April 2.
Other notable shows include the annual Explore the Sound concert Nov. 18, the Winter Choral Festival Feb. 22, 2023, and the long-running Chords for Kids concert March 4.
North Central College Theater will present six shows this season; including “Constellations” Oct. 6-9, “Next to Normal” Dec. 1-4, and “Renascence” Feb. 16-19, 2023.
