Long-time Lake Ridge New Tech School Board member Glenn Johnson resigned Aug. 9 and the school board is seeking applicants to fill out his remaining term.
Johnson has been on the board since 2010 and was its first Black member. He also was its longest-serving president.
Johnson said he plans to relocate to Texas as he recovers from the effects of a long COVID-19 infection he contracted in late 2020. He was hospitalized for 30 days and cited the health issue as part of the reason for his resignation.
“I hope that I have left an indelible impression on Lake Ridge, the administrators, teachers, parents and mostly the students because I know you have on me,” Johnson said in a statement.
Johnson also served on the Gary Redevelopment Commission and was an unsuccessful candidate for the Democratic nomination for Lake County Recorder in 2020.
Interested candidates can contact Superintendent Sharon Johnson-Shirley’s office, 219-838-1819.
