A Hobart man is facing multiple charges after he allegedly intentionally crashed his Dodge Ram truck into a car and a house occupied with four people — including two children — inside.
Anthony Sailors, 58, is facing charges of domestic battery by means of a deadly weapon, Level 5 felony; disarming a law enforcement officer, a Level 5 felony; criminal recklessness with a deadly weapon, a Level 6 felony; resisting law enforcement causing a bodily injury, a Level 6 felony; and a misdemeanor count of striking a law enforcement animal.
Around 3:19 p.m. Aug. 10, Hobart Police were sent to a residence in the 3800 block of Parker Street, where a vehicle had crashed into the house, court records said. A neighbor told police that Sailors arrived at the house and began to yell, then he got in a black Dodge Ram pickup and drove to the rear of the residence. He yelled “I will kill everyone on this block, I don’t care,” the affidavit stated.
The witness told police that Sailors entered the truck, backed it into the street, and revved his engine before ramming a Honda Pilot that was parked in front of the house, the affidavit stated. Sailors then backed up again, revved the engine and rammed his truck into the house, according to court records. The witness heard the tires spin like Sailors was trying to push further into the house, but then Sailors exited the vehicle and started yelling and threatening the four people inside, court records said.
When police arrived, Sailors fled into the woods located north of the house, according to the affidavit. An officer and his K9 Faust conducted a search and instructed Sailors to come out with his hands up, but Sailors yelled to the officer that they should return the K9 to the police vehicle because he would shoot Faust if he was released, the affidavit stated. Faust was released in the direction of Sailors, who was lying on the ground, then Sailors rolled over and proceeded to kick at Faust, court records stated. Officers advanced on Sailors while he tried to fight with Faust, according to the affidavit.
Sailors got to his feet and told police he would take his firearm with him, and tried to grab an officer’s duty weapon, court records stated. The officer saw that Sailors did not have a firearm, struck Sailors in the face and used a leg sweep to get him on the ground, the affidavit stated. Sailors was told to put his hands behind his back, but he kept resisting by punching and fighting officers, according to court records.
