A 74-year-old Lake Villa woman was critically injured Wednesday when her vehicle veered off the roadway and struck a line of trees in Old Mill Creek, according to the Lake County sheriff’s office.
The crash happened at about 2:40 p.m. on Illinois Route 45 near Kelly Road, police said.
The woman, whose name has yet to be released, was southbound on Route 45 and traveling at a high rate of speed when her Toyota Rav4 crossed into the northbound lanes, and then off the road into the ditch, police said. The vehicle then struck several trees.
The woman was taken to Condell Medical Center in Libertyville with critical injuries.
The accident remains under investigation.
