A Gurnee man who police said tried to arrange a sexual encounter with officers posing online as a teenage girl has been charged with indecent solicitation of a child, the Lake County sheriff’s office said Thursday.
Eddie R. Murillo, 43, of the 1500 block of Pinetree, had been communicating online with someone he thought was a 15-year-old girl, but were actually detectives, according to police.
During those conversations, which took place over several months, Murillo expressed a desire for a sexual relationship, police said.
On Wednesday, he was arrested after driving to a location where he thought he would be meeting the girl, police said.
“Our detectives will continue placing an emphasis on proactively investigating those who prey on our children,” Sheriff John Idleburg said in a statement. “Parents and guardians, I cannot stress it enough, know what apps your children are using and know who they are talking to on their devices.”
