Carpentersville to pick up Christmas trees with trash
Carpentersville residents who leave their discarded Christmas trees at the curb Jan. 2-27 can have them picked up by Groot with their regular trash at no additional charge.
After Jan. 27, a sticker will be required for disposal. Stickers can be purchased for $2.50 at the finance office in Village Hall, 1200 LW Besinger Drive, or for $3 at the Meadowdale Currency Exchange, 150 S. Kennedy Drive.
Trees more than eight feet long must be cut down and placed next to trash receptacles for collection. Trees covered by snow or frozen to the ground will not be picked up.

ECC scholarships for early childhood education students
Elgin Community College is providing scholarships to students studying to be early childhood teachers in an effort to help reduce the shortage of qualified educators, officials said.
The Early Childhood Access Consortium for Equity Scholarship may cover the total cost of tuition after financial aid is received. Recipients are expected to continue or return to teaching or early childhood care services/education in Illinois after they complete their study program, a news release said.
Scholarship funds are provided through the Illinois Student Assistance Commission and available for a limited time.

Dundee Township offering free access to fitness centers
The Dundee Township Park District is offering free access to facilities and classes from Sunday, Jan. 1, through Saturday, Jan. 7.
Residents can use the Rakow Center, 665 Barrington Ave., Carpentersville, and the Randall Oaks Recreation Center, 500 N. Randall Road, West Dundee, as well as participate in a variety of group exercise classes, officials said.

Literacy Volunteers Fox Valley to host tutor training
Literacy Volunteers Fox Valley will host free tutor training workshops in January.
The program is scheduled for 6:30 to 9 p.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays, Jan. 10, 12, 17 and 19, at the St. Charles Public Library, 1 S. Sixth Ave.
The organization helps adults learn to communicate in English by matching them with trained volunteer tutors who provide in-person or virtual lessons once each week. Currently, there are 20 adults waiting for tutors, officials said.
Volunteers do not need teaching experience or to know a second language in order to participate.
