Two Post-Tribune correspondents recently were honored for their work in 2022.

Carole Carlson and Michelle L. Quinn netted three awards during the Indiana Society of Professional Journalists’ Best of Indiana Journalism 2022 dinner. Quinn, a former staffer and correspondent with the paper for 21 years, garnered first place in Coverage of Race and Diversity Issues for “Purdue Northwest Chancellor Under Fire for Crude Asian Remark.”

“I feel all of the topics were great, with Michelle L. Quinn’s work having the best quality of journalism,” a judge wrote of Quinn’s award. “Her series follows one event and the subsequent repercussions.”

Quinn also won second place in Breaking News Reporting for “Hobart Apartment Building Shut Down as Uninhabitable,” a series of stories she wrote about the condemnation of 215 East Street and the aftermath of it for the residents who lived there.

Carlson, a former reporter and editor for the Post-Tribune, took third place in Coverage of Social Justice Issues for her story “Title IX at 50: Women have come a long way in sports — but there’s still a glaring need for progress.”

The organization also awarded Indianapolis Star reporter Shari Rudavsky the Indiana Journalism Courage honor for her coverage of Attorney General and Munster native Todd Rokita’s investigation into Caitlin Bernard, a doctor with whom he’s now embroiled in civil and licensing litigation over her handling of a 10-year-old Ohio girl’s rape and subsequent abortion.

The awards dinner was held in Carmel April 21.
