ARPA fund grant applications to be discussed Monday

Legacy Foundation has partnered with the City of Gary to assist with the distribution of American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) funds to non-profit organizations for programs and projects serving the residents of Gary, according to a release.

An information session will be held at 4 p.m. Monday. Learn more about grant details and register for the information session at: https://legacyfdn.org/nonprofits/arpa-grant/.

The city will award up to $500,000 in ARPA funding. To be eligible, organizations must have 501(c)3 and 501(c)(19) tax-exempt status. Priority will be given to Gary non-profit organizations located in the City of Gary. Grant awards will range from $2,000-$50,000, the release said.

Funding will be provided for the prevention or reduction of the spread of the COVID-19 virus or for responses to negative economic impacts due to COVID-19.

Portfolio manager hired by RDC

The Regional Development Co. (RDC), headquartered in Valparaiso, recently hired Aaron Allshouse as portfolio manager.

Allshouse, a Purdue graduate, comes to the RDC with four years experience in credit underwriting and portfolio management in the private sector and also served two years on the RDC’s Independent Loan Committee, a volunteer group of community lenders who audit the company’s loan files.

He will be managing the loan portfolio for the RDC; gathering financial, insurance and property tax information, performing annual credit reviews of all loans, performing site visits, and managing all servicing requests including subordinations, collateral substitutions and releases, payment deferments and assumptions, the release said.

Valparaiso University programs lauded

Valparaiso University recently announced that the part-time master of business administration (MBA) and physician assistant (PA) programs have been acknowledged in the 2023-2024 U.S. News Best Graduate Schools Rankings, according to a release.

The PA program at VU focuses on preparing graduates to enter a variety of medical settings by developing essential skills in leadership, communication, critical thinking and patient care. Valpo’s accelerated physician assistant program allows students to perform three years of undergraduate work in the bachelor of science in health science program, followed by two years in the master of science in physician assistant studies program. The part-time MBA track, along with online and hybrid options, make it an ideal, flexible option for students and professionals looking to earn their degree on their schedule, the magazine said.

Leadership Institute accepting applications

The Leadership Institute at Purdue Northwest (PNW) has opened applications for the 2023-24 Leadership Northwest Indiana (LNI) program, according to a release.

The 8-month program will include monthly in-person professional development training and activities, a 360-leadership assessment and custom one-on-one coaching. The program begins in September and runs through May 2024. LNI provides evidenced-based learning experiences to strengthen leadership skills and give strategies to be a better leader in the community, workplace and at home, the release said.

New technology added for Franciscan Health patients

A newly expanded electronic medical records tool, eCheck-In, is giving Franciscan Health patients the opportunity to complete registration check-ins electronically.

Patients will receive a text before the scheduled appointment reminding them to complete eCheck-In. With just one click, all patients, including those without a MyChart account, can use eCheck-In for their upcoming visits, a release said.

The method allows patients to confirm appointments, update medications, pharmacy and medical history, verify or update insurance and other personal information, including pay the co-pay.

Annette Kopp, system director for patient access, said in the release that Franciscan Health patients will see additional electronic tools being introduced in the coming months.
