
Mobile Museum of Tolerance coming to Gail Borden library
The Mobile Museum of Tolerance, an educational initiative of the Simon Wiesenthal Center, will be open to visitors from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Thursday and Friday, June 29-30, at Gail Borden Public Library, 270 N. Grove Ave., Elgin.
Hour-long workshops will be presented at 11 a.m., 1, 2, 3 and 4 p.m. on both days. No registration is needed to tour the mobile museum, and registration is optional for the workshops.
One workshop, “The Anne Frank Story,” will present a film about Frank’s life, followed by a discussion on the Holocaust, antisemitism, stereotypes and prejudice. The other, “The Power of Ordinary People,” will feature short films about bystanders to antisemitic violence in Nazi Germany and those who saved people from becoming Holocaust victims.

Rep. Dan Ugaste hosting Outside Kids Fair in Geneva
State Rep. Dan Ugaste, R-Geneva, is hosting his annual Outside Kid’s Fair from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Saturday, June 24, at Chapelstreet Church, 3435 Keslinger Road, Geneva.
Among those in attendance will be local public safety departments, DancEncounter School of Dance, Traveling World of Reptiles and World Martial Arts Academy.
Public safety and other demonstrations will begin at 9:30 a.m., and there will also be information, refreshments, a touch-a-truck area and a drawing for a bicycle. A LifeNet medical helicopter will be at the event from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m.

Discounted tickets being sold for Nightmare on Chicago
Discounted early bird tickets to Nightmare on Chicago Street, the city of Elgin’s annual Halloween zombie apocalypse party, can be purchased through Friday, June 30.
Early bird tickets are $25 and VIP parking passes, which do not include admission to the event, cost $50 per vehicle, a news release said. Tickets purchased after June 30 will be $40. VIP parking passes will remain $50.
Nightmare on Chicago Street is scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 21, and held in downtown Elgin. It includes live music, vendors, street and performances, and actors dressed as zombies who wander the streets of the zombie “zone.”

The NorthEast Neighborhood Association of Elgin is holding its annual community garage sale Friday through Sunday, June 23-25, in the area of Lincoln Avenue and Spring Street.
Hours are 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday and Saturday and 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday.
Among the types of items being sold are clothes, shoes, fashion accessories, sports equipment, housewares, linens, home decor, toys, small kitchen appliances, books, tools, stationery, artwork, lamps, small furniture, games and school/office supplies.
The organization has encouraged neighbors in the area to hold their own garage sales as well. Anyone who provide the details of their sale to NENA will have their sale included on a map available at the NENA sale.
