
Three men have been charged with first-degree murder in connection with the fatal shooting of an Aurora man on the city’s West Side in May, Aurora police said.
Kevan Spatz, 36, of the 1400 block of N. Menard Ave., Chicago; Joshua Rodriguez, 31, of the 2400 block of W. Lunt Ave., Chicago; and William Rodriguez, 18, of the 2000 block of Scott St., Melrose Park, are all charged with one count of first-degree murder, as well as one count of home invasion and two counts of armed violence, according to a press release from the Aurora Police Department.
Spatz and Joshua Rodriguez have been additionally charged with one count of aggravated unlawful use of a weapon by a felon, and William Rodriguez was additionally charged with aggravated unlawful use of a weapon – person under 21, according to the release.
On May 8, at approximately 12:16 a.m., Aurora police received multiple 911 calls reporting shots fired and a gunshot victim near Illinois Avenue and Candleberry Lane, officials said.
Officers arrived at a home in the 2300 block of Candleberry Lane and found Isaiah Ayala, 36, suffering from gunshot wounds, according to the release. Ayala was transported to a local hospital where he succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead, police said.
Aurora police detectives, evidence technicians and patrol officers responded to the scene and began investigating the incident. The investigation into the incident lasted more than three months, according to the release.
All three men who were charged were taken into custody Tuesday by the U.S. Marshals Service Great Lakes Regional Fugitive Task Force and transported to the Aurora Police Department, officials said.
The three men are being held at the Kane County Jail with bail set for each at $2 million.
