A Chicago man who had an “abusive” and “on-and-off” relationship broke into a house, beat, strangled and shot a teen to death in her Hammond bedroom, court records show.

Hector Delgado, 22, of Chicago, was charged Aug. 4 with two counts of murder, burglary, one count of domestic battery, and strangulation. He is being held without bond.

He was extradited from Cook County Jail around Aug. 21, court records show.

His next court appearance is Tuesday before Judge Gina Jones.

Hammond Police responded on Oct. 18, 2021 to the 4000 block of Towle Avenue. A door was broken open. There was broken glass and blood on the door.

A relative said he found Alyssa Flores, 18, covered by a blanket. She was beaten so badly, he didn’t recognize her. He was at work when Flores’ boss at a dentist office said she hadn’t arrived for work.

Police wrote she was face up with large cuts on her head and face. She had been beaten. Blood was splattered on the walls and ceiling. Officers found a bullet casing under her bed.

She and Delgado met at a Chicago high school and dated for 3-4 years, relatives said. He was full of “jealousy” and had been “abusive” for years, according to court documents.

Flores was living with a relative in Hammond since her apartment was broken into, relatives said.

Delgado went to the Hammond Police Station with a relative on Oct. 18, 2021. He claimed they broke up “months ago.”

His boss told police he got off work that day around 6:30 p.m. or 7 p.m.

Detectives told him witnesses spotted his car near the house and saw him nearby.

Lake County Coroner’s Office Forensic Pathologist Dr. Zhao Wang determined Flores had been choked and beaten in the face with a “hard object.” Her death was ruled a homicide.

Flores died from a “massive head injury,” gunshot wound to the head, complicated by strangulation and blunt force trauma, court records show.

Delgado’s DNA was found on her black sweatshirt.
