An Elgin man has been sentenced to seven years in prison for distributing pornographic images and videos of children under the age of 13, according to the Kane County State’s Attorney’s Office.

Steven J. Young, 65, of the first block of South Aldine Street, pleaded guilty to a class X felony charge of child pornography-disseminating in exchange for the prison term in a deal accepted by Kane County Judge John Barsanti, a news release said

Prosecutors said that prior to Jan. 17, Young was found to be in possession and distributed multiple videos and still images of child pornography, which was was identified and investigated by the Kane County Child Exploitation Unit.

Under state law, Young is eligible for day-for-day credit while in prison and will be required to register for life as a sex offender. Until his plea agreement, he had been free on $10,000 bond, the release said.

“Being in possession of child pornography and disseminating child  pornography are serious crimes that our community does not tolerate,” Assistant State’s Attorney Matthew Rodgers said in a statement.
