
Haunted ghost train rides at Fox River Trolley Museum
Fox River Trolley Museum in South Elgin will be conducting haunted ghost train rides on three Saturdays in October.
Scheduled for this Saturday as well as Oct. 14 and 21, the event is family friendly and suitable for all ages, according to museum officials. Trains depart at 5, 6:15 and 7:30 p.m.
In addition to train rides, scary stories and songs will be around a campfire and treats available from Margie’s Girls’ Kitchen.
Admission is $23 for all passengers. The museum is at 365 LaFox St.

Shared Harvest’s farm to table event set for Saturday
Tickets are on sale for Shared Harvest’s farm to table dinner being held from 4:30 to 7 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 7, at The Edward Schock Centre of Elgin, 100 Symphony Way.
The dinner will be a four-course meal prepared by Elgin Public House owner and chef Greg Shannon, according to the Shared Harvest website. Food will be served family style at one long communal table set up on the patio, weather permitting. In case of inclement weather, dinner will take place in the Heritage Ballroom.
Packages to see the Elgin Symphony Orchestra play that evening at the Hemmens Cultural Center are also available.
Shared Harvest is a grassroots effort to open a grocery store cooperative somewhere in Elgin.

Hanover Township hosting shredding event, food drive
Hanover Township will host a community shred event and food drive from 9 to 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 7 at the William Tiknis Campus, 250 S. Route 59, Bartlett.
Only paper materials will be accepted. Small paper clips and staples do not need to be removed. No plastic bags. Donations of nonperishable food and personal care items will be given to the township’s food pantry, according to a news release.

Volunteers sought for Hilltop Cemetery cleanup
The Elgin History Museum is looking for volunteers to help with fall groundskeeping from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday, Oct. 7, at the Hilltop Cemetery adjacent to the Elgin Sports Complex, 700 Sports Way.
This work involves landscaping and pulling long grass around grave markers but not cleaning the markers themselves, according to a news release.

Elgin library holding 6th annual Authors Fair Sunday
The Gail Borden Public Library will be holding its 6th annual Authors Fair from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 8, at the main branch, 270 N. Grove Ave., Elgin.
More than 40 local authors will talk about, sign and sell their books, according to a news release. Genres represented include mystery and suspense, fantasy, science fiction, travel, poetry, historical romance and dystopian fiction.
