A fundraiser walk to address and benefit hunger relief efforts around the world is planned for later this month in Barrington.

With a motto of “ending hunger one step at a time,” the Barrington Area CROP Hunger Walk sponsored by Church World Service is planned for Oct. 15, according to a news release announcing the annual event.

The walk steps off from the Community Church of Barrington, the release states.

“The need for food and resources for our local agencies and around the world is ever present. The Barrington Area CROP Hunger Walk ranked 40th in the nation in 2022, raising over $34,200. We hope to exceed that amount this year,” organizers stated in the release.

The release states that money raised from the hunger walk “benefit the overall work and ministry of Church World Service.”

Officials stated in the release that 25% of money raised Barrington benefits the Northern Illinois Food Bank, the FISH Food Pantry in Carpentersville, Barrington Area Council on Aging’s “Meals With Wheels” program, United Partnership for a Better Community Summer Lunch Program in Wauconda, Wauconda-Island Lake Food Pantry, Project HOPE and the People in Need program of the Barrington Area Ministerial Association.

In addition to the walk, other activities include a scavenger hunt for children — with prizes. People who want to support the effort but won’t walk may register as a “spirit walker”, the release states.

“Ask friends to sponsor you, and come pack some “Easy Eats” meals instead of walking. We will be packing 100 bags with ingredients to prepare a meal for four. They will then be donated to a local foundation providing help, hope and encouragement to individuals and families in need,” organizer stated in the release.
