A Kane County sheriff’s deputy was critically injured Monday morning after his squad vehicle was struck head on by a pickup truck pulling a loaded trailer in Hampshire Township, near Pingree Grove, officials said.
Deputy Brian Anderson, 33, was on duty deputy when driving a Dodge Durango SUV southbound on Route 47, just south of Plank Road, about 6:55 a.m., a Kane County Sheriff’s Office report said. The driver of a northbound Dually Dodge 5500 pickup truck with trailer crossed into his lane while attempting to stop in traffic.
A medical helicopter was called in to transport the deputy to Advocate Good Samaritan Hospital in Downers Grove, where he is listed in stable but critical condition. He has multiple leg fractures, the report said.
Three people were driving in the pickup truck and were taken to Ascension St. Joseph’s Hospital in Elgin for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries, the report said. The driver has been identified as Indalecio Munoz, no age available, of Marseilles.
Anderson has been a Kane County sheriff’s deputy for more than 10 months, the report said. Previously, he was a sworn police officer with the Arlington Heights Police Department.
The crash is being investigated by the Illinois State Police. It is not yet know if drugs or alcohol played a role, the report said.
