An Evanston man has been charged with murder in the beating death of a man on the Magnificent Mile in Chicago last summer, police said.

Henry Graham, 49, of the 2100 block of Dewey Ave. in Evanston, is charged with one count of murder in the June 29 beating death of Russell Long, 53, in the 600 block of North Michigan Ave. in Chicago, police said.

They said Graham was arrested on Oct. 30 in the 2700 block of S. California Ave. in Chicago and was identified as the offender in the attack. Long later died from traumatic brain injuries on July 12, and the medical examiner’s office ruled his death a homicide. Police did not give a motive for the crime.

“The offender was placed into custody and charged accordingly,” Chicago police said in a news release. “No additional information is available at this time.”

Graham was ordered held without bond during an Oct. 3 hearing at the Cook County Criminal Courts building in the 2600 block of S. California Avenue in Chicago, and is schedule for another hearing at the Skokie courthouse on Oct. 14, court records show.

Graham was using an address in the 2100 block of Dewey Ave. Evanston, which is the address for the administrative offices for Connections For The Homeless in Evanston, said the organization’s Chief Development Officer Nia Tavoularis.

She said the organization allows hundreds of unhoused people to use that address to receive mail.

“It is a service we offer to our participants,” she said.
