Mokena
FELONY CHARGES: Three Chicago men are scheduled to appear in Will County Circuit Court Jan. 5 on felony charges stemming from a Dec. 21 retail theft that turned into a crash and then a dash, according to police and court records online. Joseph M. Ammons Jr., 53, is charged with aggravated fleeing and possession of a controlled substance, Geno Taylor, 50, is charged with felony retail theft and possession of a controlled substance and Shawn J. Willis Jr., 19, is charged with felony retail theft court records show. A Frankfort officer spotted the trio driving about a half-mile from the Brookhaven Market, 19818 La Grange Road, where Taylor and Willis had allegedly stolen liquor, police said. The officer pursued them, arresting one after the getaway vehicle crashed, police said. Mokena and Frankfort officers and Will County deputies searched the area, arresting the two other suspects without incident, police said.
Oak Lawn
SHOT FIRED: Police say a resident who was shot at early Saturday morning outside his home in the 5300 block of Stoney Creek Drive may have inadvertently interrupted a car burglary. The resident said he noticed another individual, dressed in all black, standing near the street and then saw a flash from that direction. A single bullet, which didn’t injure the resident, struck a vehicle parked in the driveway and then hit a rain gutter on the home’s second floor at about 2 a.m. The other person fled to a waiting red sedan, which was driven south on Central Avenue before colliding with a vehicle containing passengers at 111th Street and Cicero Avenue. No one reported being injured. The red sedan’s driver then fled east, eventually crashing into a utility pole in Chicago’s Mount Greenwood neighborhood, near 111th Street and Trumbull Avenue, police said. At least four individuals fled the vehicle, police said. Investigators recovered a rifle inside the vehicle and a handgun nearby, police said.
ILLEGAL GUN: Damien J. Foster, 27, Chicago, was arrested on a charge of aggravated unlawful use of a weapon during a traffic stop Friday at 95th Street and Melvina Avenue after officers recovered a .45 caliber handgun loaded with 10 bullets from his glove box and determined he lacked a concealed carry license, police said. Foster, stopped for having expired registration, was also accused of driving on a suspended license and driving without insurance, police said.
BATTERY ALLEGED: An employee at Tobacco Island, 11051 Cicero Ave., told police a male punched him in the face while he was checking the individual’s age. The employee said two other males who had entered the store with the individual ran out of the store with an unpurchased case of cigars, police said. The employee told police he briefly struggled with the third male, who freed himself, grabbed merchandise from a shelf and then fled.
Orland Park
DUI CRASH: An Oswego woman accused of drunken driving Dec. 1 tailgated a pickup truck for several turns before hitting it at 179th Street and Pentagon Drive, police said. Natalie A. Gates, 39, reportedly offered an officer multiple $20 bills to give to the other driver, police said.
DUI CRASH: An Orland Park man told officers cheap tires caused him to drive off 159th Street into a small tree, shearing it, and to also knock down a street sign at 77th Avenue, police said. Kyle P. Harrison, 20, 16100 block of Princeton Avenue, also said he’d had only one beer. But officers arrested Harrison, accusing him of driving under the influence of drugs (cannabis) and alcohol.
Palos Hills
DUI CRASH: Henry Feliciano Montoya, 30, Schererville, Indiana, was arrested Dec. 14 and accused of drunken driving after crashing at 103rd Street and Roberts Road, police said.
Steger
A University Park man was charged with a two-count felony after officers found a loaded 9 mm handgun in his locked glove box during a Dec. 16 traffic stop, according to police and Will County court records online. Deon M. Washington, 38, 500 block of Landau Road, was driving ahead of a law enforcement officer on Kings Road when he switched into the oncoming lane at Norfolk Avenue, police said. During the ensuing stop the officer determined Washington owned the weapon and lacked the state-required firearm owner’s identification, police said. Washington was charged with aggravated unlawful use of a weapon/no FOID card and aggravated unlawful use of a weapon/gun in a motor vehicle, as well as drunken driving and improper lane use, court records show.
