An Elgin man is facing felony charges after he reportedly fled police following a traffic stop in West Dundee and then caused a crash on the bridge crossing the Fox River, police said.
Alex Gavina, 20, was stopped by police shortly before 7 p.m. Tuesday on Main Street because his car’s registration was expired, West Dundee police said.
He fled the scene before being ticketed or arrested and ended up crashing into another vehicle on the Main Street bridge, closing it for 45 minutes so crews could clean up the roadway, according to the report.
No one was injured and police took Gavina into custody.
He has been charged with felony aggravated fleeing/attempting to elude police officers and misdemeanor counts of reckless driving, driving with license revoked, improper transportation of cannabis, failure to reduce speed and driving too fast for conditions.
Gavina was released from jail but will be required to wear an electronic monitor. His next court appearance is scheduled for Feb. 2 at the Kane County Judicial Center in St. Charles.
