Elgin library hosting talk on healthy eating and cooking

A program on healthy eating and cooking conducted by Advocate Sherman Hospital staff members will be held from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 17, at the Gail Borden Public Library, 270 N. Grove Ave., Elgin.

The free discussion will provide tips on healthy eating and on preparing meals with nutrition and wellness in mind, according to a news release.

Winter storybook, craft, hike event for kids planned

The Elgin Parks and Recreation Department is holding a winter storybook, craft and hike program from 1 to 3 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 20, at Hawthorne Hill Nature Center, 28 Brookside Drive, Elgin.

The event is geared toward children ages 4 to 10, according to a news release. Cost is $10 for Elgin residents and $15 for nonresidents.

Elgin Police Department hosting Cocoa with a Cop

The Elgin Police Department will host its next Cocoa with a Cop from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Monday, Jan. 22, at Senior Services Associates, 205 Fulton St., Elgin.

The public is invited to stop by for complimentary hot cocoa and a chance to meet police officers and ask questions, according to an online announcement.

Township park board to present financial review

The Dundee Township Park District will offer a financial review as part of its meeting at 7 p.m., Wednesday, Jan. 17, at the Rakow Center, 665 Barrington Ave., Carpentersville.

The presentation will offer a look at the district’s finances to help the community better understand the financial laws and statutes it must comply with, according to an online release. Tax bills, equalized assessed valuation, tax cap law, fund balance policy, aquatic subsidies history and capital projects will be covered.

The information presented also will be available on the park district’s website, www.dtpd.org, shortly after the meeting.
