Wendy’s off of Randall Road in Carpentersville has closed
The Wendy’s fast-food restaurant in Carpentersville, located off Randall Road near Spring Hill Mall, is out of business.
The closure happened last week and was a surprise to the village, which received no notice, Village Manager John O’Sullivan said.
In violation of village building codes, the business owner used plywood to board up the windows, O’Sullivan said. A request to remove the boards has not been addresssed, he said, and the village has no information about future plans for the site.
The restaurant, located in a strip mall anchored by a Menards home building store, stands between a McDonald’s and a Dunkin. It is also close to a Culver’s, a 7-Eleven with a gas station, a Starbucks and the Sunrise Social restaurant, previously known as Brunch Cafe.
Although the reason for the closing is not known, O’Sullivan said traffic patterns there could have been a problem.
The Kane County Division of Transportation is analyzing ways to create better access to the businesses in the area of the Menards, he said, and a traffic study is underway. Officials have been talking with property owners about acquiring land or easements that may be needed for future changes.
Another fast food restaurant in the same area — a former Burger King — closed at the end of 2022, O’Sullivan said. There have been inquiries about using the site as a potential cannabis dispensary, he said.
