An East Chicago man is facing charges after holding a gun to a woman’s head.
Luis M. Garcia, 37, was charged Wednesday with criminal confinement, a Level 3 felony; confinement, pointing a firearm, and domestic battery — all Level 6 felonies; and misdemeanor domestic battery.
He posted a $6,000 cash bond Thursday.
East Chicago Police responded around 9 p.m. July 29 to a domestic disturbance on the 2100 block of Joy Lane.
The victim said Garcia threatened her with a gun. They were going through a divorce and he begged her to stop the proceedings.
A witness later told officers Garcia thought the woman was cheating. As she gave a child medicine, he grabbed a gun from a kitchen cabinet, grabbed her by the throat and held the gun to her head.
She hit him over the head with a glass salt shaker and ran with the child to a second-floor bathroom. The other children locked themselves in bedrooms.
Another court date is not yet set.
