A man was fatally shot and killed after a traffic crash on the city’s West Side early Sunday morning, according to Chicago police.

The vehicle crash occurred at approximately 2 a.m. in the 1500 block of North Magnolia Avenue in the West Town neighborhood. After the crash, police say, the driver of the striking vehicle shot at the victim, who was outside his own vehicle. The suspect then fled the scene.

Officials responded to the West Town neighborhood shortly before 3 a.m., and the victim was transported to Northwestern Memorial Hospital with a wound to the right side of his chest.

He later died of his injuries. According to the Cook County medical examiner’s office, the victim was a 35-year-old man.

As of Sunday afternoon, officials hadn’t identified the victim and no one had been arrested in connection to the shooting. Detectives are investigating.
