Illinois State University announced Monday that all events in the Bone Student Center scheduled for Monday were canceled as police continued their search for a suspect in a Sunday shooting.

One person, who is not a student at the university, suffered a nonlife-threatening gunshot wound at the Bone Student Center in what officials are calling an “isolated incident” after a fight between two groups of people.

A university-wide emergency alert was first sent out at 7:55 p.m. Sunday, urging students and staff who were near the center to take precautions.

Shortly after 9:15 p.m. that night, another alert said police were looking for a slender Black man, approximately 5 feet, 10 inches tall, who was wearing all black clothing. On Monday, the university’s police department shared two photos of a person of interest on their Facebook page.

He was last seen running south from University Street and College Avenue near the southwest corner of the student center. The building was closed shortly after. No shelter-in-place order was issued for the campus.

The university is asking possible eyewitnesses to contact ISUPolice@IllinoisState.edu or call 309-438-8631 with information.
