Schererville man charged with rape

A Schererville man faces a rape case after allegedly assaulting a woman, then apologizing in text messages.

Jendryk Andrews, 25, was charged Friday with two counts of rape, one count of criminal confinement, strangulation, domestic battery and one misdemeanor.

He is being held without bond until Sept. 9, when it will be reset to $100,000, or $10,000 cash surety.

The woman told police that she went to Andrews’ apartment Aug. 21 to get some things. He physically picked her up from the bathroom, then sexually assaulted her on his bed, before choking her.

“That’s disgusting what you just made me do to you,” he said, according to court documents.

He punched a wall.

“So now you fear me? I’ve buried friends before,” he said.

Andrews confirmed several parts of the victim’s story to police, saying he “lost (himself) for a moment” and “something turned dark.”

“I’m utterly…devastated I even thought that was a good idea,” he wrote in one text to the woman. “I am sorry though, I’m still…crying dude.”

Habeeb Habeeb, 58, owner of Cedar Lake Tobacco, Vape and Cig, 13140 Wicker Ave., was charged with one count of criminal confinement. Two counts of sexual battery were dismissed Monday, records show.

A bail hearing is scheduled Sept. 3 before Judge Aleksandra Dimitrijevic.

The victim told police that Habeeb got mad “about stocking a new vape,” grabbed her by the hair, dragged her into his office and slammed her face on his desk, according to a press release.

He pulled down her pants and spanked her buttocks, then took pictures of her injuries, charges allege.
