Three people were killed and a fourth person was critically injured Friday afternoon when gunmen opened fire on a street in the Garfield Park neighborhood, according to Chicago police.
The group of four victims was all standing on the street in the 4000 block of West Maypole Avenue around 4:45 p.m., when at least two shooters exited a vehicle and fired on the group, police said.
One of the victims, a 36-year-old man, suffered multiple gunshots to his body and was pronounced dead at the scene. A 32-year-old woman who was struck in the head was taken to Stroger Hospital, where she was pronounced dead, police said. An unidentified male of unknown age who was also struck in the body was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
The fourth victim, a 35-year-old man, was taken to Stroger in critical condition. The Cook County medical examiner’s office confirmed just one of the deaths Friday evening, but did not release the identity.
Police released no other details on the shooting as Harrison Area detectives conducted their investigation.
