Three people were arrested after officers attempted to pull a vehicle over in the Brighton Park neighborhood where shots were fired toward police and the vehicle fled but crashed less than a block away, Chicago police said.
Shortly before 1:15 a.m., officers attempted to conduct a stop on a vehicle carrying two males and a female in the 4400 block of South Mozart Street when the vehicle fled and someone opened fire multiple times toward officers, police said.
A police chase ensued and the vehicle crashed less than a mile away in the 2900 block of West 47th Street where the occupants fled on foot. At least one of the fleeing occupants opened fire and an officer returned fire, police said.
No one was struck, but the three suspects were taken to a local hospital for observation for minor injuries suffered during the crash, police said. The suspects were arrested and two firearms were recovered.
The Civilian Office of Police Accountability is investigating the use of force during the shooting, and the officers will be placed on administrative duties for 30 days.
