If you’re planning to take a train to Chicago for a museum visit this weekend, you might want to rethink your travel plans.
The South Shore Line is suspending service to the Museum Campus and Van Buren Street stations on Saturday and Sunday because of construction in Chicago.
Passengers will be transported by bus between Millennium Station and Metra’s 18th Street Station, about a 10-minute bus ride. Passengers traveling to and from the 57th Street station will not be affected.
The 18th Street Station has a lot of stairs, so passengers with difficulty using stairs should use the McCormick Place station. On Saturday and Sunday, passengers with disabilities will be shuttled between Millennium and McCormick Place.
Bikes will be prohibited on buses.
A temporary schedule is in effect during busing.
The construction project is part of the expansion of South Shore Line service, including adding a fourth rail line north of 18th Street to accommodate additional South Shore Line trains resulting from the Double Track NWI and Monon Corridor projects.
The $200 million project will also allow bidirectional signals, reducing delays, as well as track realignments and upgrades to the catenary system that supplies overhead power to the trains.
