The son of a 77-year-old Orland Park man found dead in his home Wednesday is now charged with first-degree murder in the death, Orland Park police said Friday.
Ibrahim Kassem, 46, was taken into custody earlier this week without incident police said. Investigators said Kasseem was quickly identified as a person of interest in the death of his father, 77-year-old Samir Kassem.
Police responded to Samir Kassem’s home on the 14100 block of Concord Drive at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, after a 911 call reporting a death in the home.
The Cook County medical examiner’s office said Kassem died as a result of multiple injuries from an assault.
Orland Park police said that with the assistance of the South Suburban Major Crimes Task Force and the Cook County Sheriff’s Department, investigators gathered evidence linking Ibrahim Kassem to the homicide. Orland Park investigators worked in coordination with the Cook County state’s attorney’s office, which approved the murder charge.
Ibrahim Kassem was to have his first court apperance Saturday at the Leighton Criminal Courthouse in Chicago.
