A Mundelein police officer shot and killed a woman who advanced on officers while armed with two knives, according to the Lake County Major Crime Task Force.

Authorities have not yet released the woman’s identity.

According to the task force, the shooting occurred at 5:57 p.m. Monday when officers responded to a call of a suicidal woman in the 1100 block of Ashbrook Drive.

When officers arrived, the woman was seated on the back porch. Police began interviewing a person inside the residence who had called police.

During that interview, the woman suddenly stood up and approached a rear sliding door while armed with two knives, the task force said. The woman, who was yelling aggressively, began to open the sliding door when an officer shot her, authorities said.

Paramedics, who were standing by, brought the woman to a local hospital. She was later pronounced dead. The officer was also transported for observation.

The task force was called in to investigate the shooting.
