A Merrillville man is facing charges for allegedly kidnapping and raping a young teen girl who ran away from home.

Paul Douglas Green, 46, was charged May 9 with rape, two counts of kidnapping, two counts of criminal confinement, one count of battery resulting in serious bodily injury, and one count of battery on a person less than 14 years old.

He is in custody, held on a $15,000 cash bond. His next hearing is May 20 before Judge Samuel Cappas.

Gary Police responded at 10 p.m. May 8 to a home on the 3900 block of Madison Street after a brief 911 call for a possible kidnapping.

They found Green walking nearby with a Sharks to go food bag. A female officer “forcibly” grabbed the key from Green to get inside.

There, they found the teen bleeding from her nose and mouth, “visibly crying,” “shaking,” and “fearful.”

The girl told officers she ran away May 8 because she was scared to get caught with a tablet.

Green punched her on 38th Avenue and Broadway and forced her to the home where he sexually assaulted her, the affidavit states.

Green told police he met a “little girl” outside of Broadway Liquors who said a family member sexually assaulted her. She was “hungry” and “needed shelter,” he claimed, and didn’t call 911 since it was “none of his business.”

He believed she was 17 or 18. The girl told police she was 13.

She was fine when he went for food, Green said. Police said his account was “dishonest.”
