A 36-year-old man was arrested following a stabbing Thursday night in the Loop neighborhood, Chicago police said.

Shortly after 9:15 a.m., a 25-year-old man was outside in the first block of North State Street when he was approached by a group of males and an argument ensued. A 36-year-old man approached the victim, pulled out a sharp object and stabbed him in the back, police said.

The victim was taken in serious condition to Northwestern Memorial Hospital.

The suspect was arrested and charges are pending while detectives continue their investigation.
