A 45-year-old man was injured in a shooting incident on Friday afternoon in Aurora, the second shooting to occur that day in the city, according to the Aurora Police Department.
At around 3:44 p.m. Friday, officers responded to reports of a gunshot victim in the 1100 block of Bonner Avenue on Aurora’s East Side, the police department said in a news release.
Upon arrival, officers found a man, 45, with a non-life-threatening gunshot wound inside a home, the department said. Officers began rendering aid, including the application of a tourniquet, until Aurora Fire Department paramedics arrived and took him to a local hospital, according to officials.
Initial information indicates that the man may have been injured in a shooting incident in the surrounding neighborhood and then sought help at a nearby home, where officers ultimately located him, the police department said.
Detectives from the department’s Investigations Bureau responded to investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident, the news release said, and evidence technicians processed multiple locations in the area and collected forensic evidence.
Detectives are continuing to canvass the neighborhood and review surveillance footage as the investigation goes on, the department said, but preliminary investigation indicates that the shooting appears to be an isolated incident, with no ongoing threat to the public.
As of Monday morning, no suspects were in custody, a police spokesperson confirmed.
On the other side of the city, another shooting incident left two injured earlier on Friday.
Friday morning, officers responded to reports of gunfire in the 2000 block of West Downer Place on the city’s West Side, finding a 25-year-old man with a gunshot wound near Downer Place and Edgelawn Drive, officials said on Friday. He was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries and later left on his own.
Shortly after that, a second man with a gunshot wound arrived at another local hospital and was treated and released, police said previously. According to the Aurora Police Department, it’s believed his injury is related to the shooting incident on West Downer Place.
No one was in custody in connection with this incident either as of Monday, the police spokesperson confirmed.
The department is asking anyone with information about either of the recent shootings to contact the Aurora Police Department Investigations Division at 630-256-5500. Tips can also be submitted anonymously to Aurora Area Crime Stoppers at 630-892-1000 or via its website at www.p3tips.com/135.
