A Rogers Park man died after he was pulled from Lake Michigan near Diversey Harbor in Lincoln Park Thursday afternoon, authorities said.

The man, 32, was found unresponsive in the water near the 2500 block of North Lake Shore Drive just after 3 p.m., according to Chicago police.

The man, identified as Matthew McCullough, was transported to Northwestern Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead, according to the Cook County medical examiner’s office.

Belmont Area detectives are conducting a death investigation, pending an autopsy scheduled for Friday, police said.

The National Weather Service has issued a beach hazard warning for Lake Michigan beaches through Friday due to the danger of high waves and dangerous currents. Officials with the Chicago Park District warned that swimming was only permitted at locations with lifeguards from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.
