The vehicle reportedly involved in the May 19 shooting death of 21-year-old Jordan Buelvas in Skokie has been recovered, officials said.
Skokie police Sgt. Brandi Shelton confirmed by email that the car was found “in another jurisdiction” and is being processed for physical evidence.
Buelvas was shot multiple times outside his home in the 9000 block of LaCrosse Avenue and later died at an area hospital. Evidence recovered from the vehicle has been submitted for laboratory analysis, Shelton said.
The car was located through the efforts of the North Regional Violent Crimes Task Force, which when “combined with leads” generated through Automatic License Plate Recognition technology, allowed investigators to “identify and locate the suspect vehicle.”
Shelton did not disclose the car owner’s name, where the car was found or if the owner might have been involved in the shooting, which took place at about 6:20 a.m. May 19 in the area of LaCrosse Avenue and Grove Street.
The Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office deemed Buelvas’ cause of death to be multiple gunshot wounds. The case has been classified a homicide.
Skokie police said there was “no active threat to the public” as a result of the shooting.
At the time of the incident, neighbor Abdul Begawala said his wife heard the sound of gunshots and saw a young man lying on the ground and his mother standing over him screaming for help.
As a 40-year resident of the area, Begawala previously told the Pioneer Press they’d never witnessed a tragedy like this one.
“This is a family neighborhood,” Begawala said.
The investigation remains ongoing and additional information will be released by the police department as it becomes available, Shelton said.
